One of the original public houses in an historic village, the decor consists of old oak beams, period furnishings and walls hung with antique prints. This 17thC gem has Summer Lightening permanently on sale with regularly changing guest ales sourced regionally and nationally. There has been a hostelry on the site since the 11th Century. The hotel is famous for King John holding court on several occasions. In more recent times it became one of the great coaching Inns on the Great North Road. The main hotel bar has 2 handpumps.The beers on the bar are predominantly from LocAle brewer Oldershaw.
